LANSING Today, the Whitmer Administration announced promotions and new staff hires within the Governor’s Communications Office and Constituent Services Department.
Bobby Leddy, who previously served as the governor’s deputy press secretary, has been promoted to press secretary. Chelsea Lewis Parisio, who served as deputy press secretary, will take on a greater leadership role on the press team as chief deputy press secretary. New to the team are Samantha Kennedy, who will serve as deputy press secretary, and Chaitanya Karve who will serve as speechwriter. Within the Constituent Services Department, Rachel Plawecki has been promoted to serve as Director of Constituent Services and Ed Dichoza has been promoted to serve as Deputy Director of Constituent Services.
State of Michigan Attorney General
LANSING – Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel today announced John VanDeventer as her new chief legal counsel.
Prior to joining the Michigan Department of Attorney General, VanDeventer was employed by Jenner & Block LLP in Chicago where he served in the firm’s Restructuring and Bankruptcy Practice, focusing primarily on commercial bankruptcy. Before that he spent time working in Washington, D.C., for the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which serves about 2 million members in health care, the public sector and property services. VanDeventer also worked on Gov. Jennifer Granholm’s re-election campaign and with the Michigan Corrections Organization, a local SEIU chapter that serves prison workers and others in Michigan.

ANN ARBOR, MI The University of Michigan has announced that Anthony Kolenic will become director of the Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum on March 1.
Kolenic will oversee 40 staff and partners across the university who support and maintain more than 840 acres across two Matthaei-Nichols properties, according to a university news release. He succeeds Bob Grese, who was the director since 2004 and retired in June, the release states.

Governor Whitmer Appoints Detroit CFO Dave Massaron as New State Budget Director

LANSING, Mich. Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced that she has appointed Dave Massaron to serve as State Budget Director. Massaron is the Chief Financial Officer for the City of Detroit, where he supervised all of the City’s financial and budget activities. Prior to his service as CFO, he served as the City’s Chief Operating Officer and Senior Counsel to Mayor Mike Duggan, where he was responsible for day to day operations of the City, including ensuring that the City’s annual budgets reflected the Mayor’s priorities.
