Joe Biden should learn from Donald Trump on China Updated Jan 14, 2021 | 19:20 IST
To bring America’s allies back on side, Joe Biden will need to convince them that the US has more to offer than China. File picture: Joe Biden  |  Photo Credit: AP
When Joe Biden assumes office later this month, how he deals with China will be among his most closely watched policies. To the American voters who sent President Donald Trump packing – and to many observers elsewhere – it might be easy to assume that a return to diplomatic engagement with Beijing is in the best interest of Washington and its allies. But that assumption would be wrong. If there is one place where elements of the past must persist, it’s the tougher approach to China’s Communist Party championed by Trump. And the effect of this will be felt beyond China, the US and Asia, in also Europe and the Middle East.

Officers file sexual harassment suit against former Ambridge police chief
Two part-time police officers filed a lawsuit against the borough of Ambridge and former borough police chief James Mann on Wednesday alleging sexual harassment.
Officers Amanda Brown and Alexis Korol claim they were subjected to a sexually hostile work environment created by Mann, according to the suit.
Mann, 63, was accused of falsifying timesheets while on disability in 2017 and 2018.
Pennsylvania State Police started investigating Mann in March 2018 at the request of Ambridge Mayor David Drewnowski, who had received an anonymous letter detailing Mann’s possible theft. A jury found Mann not guilty of theft by deception and witness intimidation in October 2020.
