Coming off an underwhelming regular season, Syracuse found itself just inside the bubble on Selection Sunday, getting an unseeded bid in the NCAA Tournament. The Orange’s first round opponent is none other than longtime basketball rival Georgetown, the Big East champion and No. 5 seed in the tournament. Head coach John Desko and several players said that the postseason is a brand new season nothing from the regular season matters, including a 2-5 record against ranked teams. Scouting the Georgetown Hoyas

Scouting the Georgetown Hoyas Author: May 11, 2021 Syracuse. Georgetown. No we are not talking about the famous basketball rivalry between the Orange and the Hoyas, but a renewal of the lacrosse version. One without the same historical significance but also between two programs that are no stranger to one another. The last time the Orange and Hoyas met was in 2013 where Syracuse squeezed out a 9-8 win. Overall both squads have met 22 times with the Orange leading the series 17-5. GEORGETOWN S OFFENSE Syracuse has faced some good passing teams this season including Albany, Notre Dame and North Carolina. Georgetown, however, is number one in the country in total assists (144) and assists per game (10.3). Despite that, Georgetown is only 19th in goals per game at 13.5. Syracuse, for comparison s sake, is 11th at 14.1 goals per game. That means the Hoyas get most of their goals off of passing and motion offense as opposed to isolation. Georgetown is only 30th in man-up offense.

As the second game of the tournament following only UNC vs Monmouth, it is going to give us our first look at a Big Ten team playing anyone from outside the conference in 2021. The lack of comparison points outside the conference and the cluster of four basically indistinguishable teams at the bottom (Every team outside of Rutgers and Maryland finished either 4-3 or 3-4 in games not against Rutgers and Maryland) throwing off many attempts at traditional analysis of the l
