JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – It took four fire departments and a around four hours to get a grassland fire under control Saturday northeast of Jamestown.
The Jamestown Rural Fire Department was called out at approximately 4:45 PM to a “significant fire” in the ditch alongside the road. Nine units responded, but backup became necessary due to wind conditions and accelerated growth rate of the fire.
16 units from other departments including Wimbledon, Courtney, and the Jamestown City Fire Department all assisted. Area farmers also used tractors and discs to help out.
One JRFD firefighter sustained minor injury, a pulled muscle, and some equipment including a nozzle and hose were lost. No other injuries were reported and no damage besides the burned acres happened.
