A team of nurses at Jamestown Regional Medical Center is working to make those moments less traumatic.
“After an assault or rape, the first step towards a conviction, you know, before any evidence, testing, charges, before a trial, is a sexual assault forensic exam,” explains JRMC foundation director Lisa Jackson.
Commonly known as rape kits, sexual assault forensic exams require specialized nurses to complete.
JRMC has eight of these Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners, or SANE, available 24/7.
According to Jackson, victims can be cared for by SANE nurses free of charge before or after going to the police, if they decide to do so.
JAMESTOWN, N.D. (JRMC) – Supporters of the annual Tree of Love event helped Jamestown Regional Medical Center’s littlest patients and their families.
More than 100 supporters raised $7,170 to purchase a pregnancy app for moms and babies. The app supports mothers through pregnancy and the first years of a child’s life. JRMC Family BirthPlace welcomes about 350 babies each year.
“The new technology will connect parents to valuable, interactive content that is available anytime – from any device. The accessibility helps provide the best care to welcome our littlest patients,” said Emily Woodley, JRMC Family BirthPlace manager.
The technology cost is $6,000. The platform offers medically-accurate content that can also be customized to create a unique patient experience. Text, videos and animations are available on pregnancy, labor and birth, postpartum care, breastfeeding and newborn care.
