Gov. Andrew Cuomo has been quick to say the broadband access gap has been closed by his Broadband for All program, though many including state Sen. George Borrello, R-Sunset Bay disagree with Cuomo’s assessment. The governor is looking to boost broadband access by requiring private companies to provide a $15 rate so that low-income residents can have access to broadband internet.
There are pockets of Chautauqua County lagging behind in internet access according to a fall 2020 survey compiled by the state Education Department. The New York Civil Liberties Union recently filed a Freedom of Information Law request for the survey, which showed that more than 165,000 students in New York state (6%) lacked internet access. In Chautauqua County, 1,058 of the county’s 18,353 students (5.76%) had no access to internet. The same percentage of students had no access to a device to access the internet.
JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Visitors in the Jamestown Public School District along with students and staff will be “strongly encouraged” to wear masks inside Jamestown Public School buildings starting May 17th.
Jamestown Public School Superintendent Dr. Rob Lech says to this point, the board and officials have taken great care since the pandemic began to keep the students and staff safe.
With that, Dr. Lech says it was up to the school board to decide the next steps in their Health & Safety Plan. He provided a list of choices the school board could make, adding that any decision they made would be polarizing.
The James Prendergast Library Board of Trustees has honored its former president.
In March during an online meeting, the board presented a plaque and a gift to Joni Blackman, Prendergast trustee, for the three years she served as president of the board from 2018 to 2020. During her tenure as president, the library faced many challenges like finding an annual sustainable funding source, the COVID-19 pandemic and expanding the number of current trustees.
“Thank you so much for everything you did,” said Dan Hickman, Prendergast board president. “You really shepherd the library though several rough years in a row and we are very grateful for all of your hard work.”
