Dive Brief:
Cities, villages and other jurisdictions along the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River face nearly $2 billion in costs over the next five years to address coastal damage driven by climate change, per survey results released last week by the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative (GLSLCI).
According to survey responses, 95% of city officials say they’re highly or moderately concerned about coastal damage and 99% said there has been a consistent or increasing public interest in the issues. However, only 27% of respondents said their staff was highly knowledgeable on coastal issues and just 11% said they had a “high level of capacity” to respond to coastal problems.
Vernon Township offering free rides to get vaccinated
Updated 5/26/2021 1:09 PM
Vernon Township has launched a no-cost coronavirus vaccination ride assistance program to help residents with transportation challenges get to their appointments.
The program follows a COVID-19 call bank outreach effort initiated three months ago that has reached more than 7,000 residents.
Township Supervisor Jonathan Altenberg said there is vaccine hesitancy from a large part of the population that needs to be addressed before the virus mutates.
Visit vernontownship.com or call (847) 634-4600. Vernon Township serves all or portions of Buffalo Grove, Indian Creek, Lincolnshire, Long Grove, Mettawa, Mundelein, Riverwoods, Vernon Hills, Lake Forest and unincorporated Vernon Township.
Lincoln Square’s Bistro Campagne is already operating at 25% of normal business. Rising costs of food, personal protection equipment and new restrictions could put the business under. “If they restrict the inside seating, we’re basically going on fumes,” Johnathan Altenberg, president of Bistro Campagne, said. Altenberg is also the supervisor of Vernon Township. Bistro Campagne has been in Lincoln. Concerts Oct 19, 2020
