Gauteng police confiscate counterfeit goods worth more than R7 million as they continue to clean the streets of Johannesburg

A 25-year-old man is expected to appear at Johannesburg Magistrates Court on Monday 15 February 2021 after he was arrested for smuggling, dealing and possession of counterfeit goods. A collective, consisting of South African Police Service, South African National Defence Force, Department of Home Affairs, ER24 and brand holders raided the buildings in Brixton and Johannesburg CBD after getting a tip-off about the storage of counterfeit goods. The items confiscated include international and local brands of sneakers, shirts, bags and watches. Furthermore, on the evening of Saturday, 13 February 2021, Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela led an integrated multidisciplinary operation that started with a roadblock in Randfontein, West Rand, where 40 people were arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol.
