South Africa’s total Covid-19 cases increased to 1 214 176 on Saturday, with 21 606 new positive cases being confirmed.
As of Saturday, 9 January 2021, the cumulative number of detected Covid-19 cases is 1 214 176 with 21 606 new cases identified, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize has confirmed.

Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) spokesperson, senior superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the warehouse was discovered during a joint operation by the JMPD and the South African Police Service (SAPS).
Minnaar said during the operation, officers went to a property next to the Jeppe Train Station where they found a group of people drinking beer outside a tavern.

Spokesperson Wayne Minaar says there is going to have a joint operation consisting of the SAPS, JMPD and Gauteng traffic police.
We speak to the spokesperson for the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department, Wayne Minaar, to find out how the JMPD plans to manage the situation in Hillbrow and other parts of the city on New Year s Eve.
JMPD will be working together with all the other law-enforcement agencies as we re going to have a joint operation that will consist of the SAPS, JMPD and Gauteng traffic police. It will be a big force that will be on duty on both New Year s Eve as well as New Year s Day.

Police in Gauteng arrested over 1340 suspects, including 100 for driving under the influence of liquor, over the Christmas weekend.
