JOSEPHINE COUNTY, Ore. – An injured hiker was rescued from Grayback Mountain.
The Josephine County Sheriff’s Office said on Monday, January 18, a man and a woman were hiking about a mile from Grayback Cabin when the 42-year-old woman got injured and couldn’t continue on or backtrack.
The man she was with was able to call for help, which was received by rescuers at about 5:00 p.m.
Josephine County Search and Rescue volunteers tried hiking to the location where the hikers were at, but couldn’t make it due to extreme conditions.
A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter was dispatched that night and the crew dropped off a paramedic with supplies to help get the hikers through the night.

The Josephine County Sheriff s Office said that extreme conditions kept rescuers from reaching a pair of stranded hikers until the day after they called for help.

CAVE JUNCTION, Ore. Following multiple rescue attempts, crews from the Oregon National Guard were able to airlift an injured hiker who was stranded on Grayback Mountain overnight.
The Josephine County Sheriff s Office says that it received a report about the injured hiker just before 6 p.m. on Monday. Two hikers had gone up Grayback Mountain, but one of them a 42-year-old woman was hurt and unable to get down. The other hiker was able to call for help.

GRANTS PASS, Ore. The Josephine County District Attorney s office says it has cleared seven officers who used deadly force in a December standoff at an Illinois Valley property that resulted in the death of the gunman and a hostage.
The hostage situation escalated from a domestic violence incident on the morning of December 7, prompting a major response from multiple law enforcement agencies. It ended in gunfire later that day. The two fatalities were later later identified as 56-year-old Donald Guest and 70-year-old Sandra Reynolds.
Grants Pass man killed in Merlin shooting on Monday, OSP confirms
Neither OSP or the Josephine County Sheriff s Office have yet indicated if there is a suspect in the shooting, or if anyone was taken into custody.

MERLIN, Ore. Oregon State Police has released more details about a shooting in Merlin on Monday morning, confirming that one man was killed.
OSP said that troopers and Josephine County Sheriff s deputies responded to reports of a shooting at 200 Corporate Way in Merlin just before 7 a.m.
At the scene, officers found 56-year-old Kurt Krauss of Grants Pass dead.
