Pedestrian hit and killed Tuesday on SR 23 identified

A pedestrian who was hit by a vehicle and killed early Tuesday morning has been identified. Juante M. Barry, 33, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team. The man s identity had been previously held pending family notification. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday. Emergency crews were dispatched around 3 a.m. in the area on Indiana 23 near 27th Street in Clay Township. Investigators say a grey Chevy Cruz was heading southwest on Indiana 23 when they struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian was reportedly walking in the unlit street and was wearing dark clothing. The driver, Israel Becerra Davila, age 44, of Mishawaka, stayed on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

Pedestrian killed in crash on State Road 23, FACT investigating By: Frank Rotella ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. The St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team (FACT) is investigating a crash Tuesday morning that resulted in the death of a pedestrian. Police were called to State Road 23 near 27th Street around 2:50 a.m. for a crash involving a pedestrian. During their investigation, police learned a grey Chevy Cruz was heading southwest on State Road 23 when it struck a pedestrian. According to police, the pedestrian was walking in the unlit street wearing dark clothing. The driver was cooperative with the investigation, police said. The 33-year-old pedestrian was found deceased at the scene and their name is being withheld pending family notification.
