16% of ND undergrads test positive
SOUTH BEND â After a fall semester at Notre Dame that saw classes move online for two weeks because of a spike in coronavirus cases and the university president contracting COVID-19, final numbers show that more than 16% of undergraduate students tested positive for the virus.
With students currently home in the midst of a 10-week winter break, the university plans to continue in-person learning for the spring, having learned a few key lessons from the fall semester.
According to statistics from the universityâs COVID-19 dashboard, which shows data through Dec. 16, there were a total of 1,871 COVID cases in the fall semester, 1,438 of them coming from undergraduate students. According to a university website, Notre Dame has an undergraduate population of 8,731, meaning roughly 16.5% of undergraduate students tested positive for the virus during the semester.
