The idea, first hatched in April 2019, would have established a mega-HQ for the Greater Sudbury Police Service, as well as fire and paramedic services. The 911 communicators would also have been housed at this facility.
But Ward 6 Coun. Rene Lapierre said Tuesday there is no longer a need for such a building. For one thing, schedules do not align. Secondly, there are risk factors to consider if placing firefighters, paramedics and police in the same building. Lapierre also commented on how COVID-19 has shifted priorities.
