Pfizer s COVID-19 vaccine to roll out at Barstow Veterans Home on Thursday Victorville Daily Press After the successful administering of the first round of the COVID-19 vaccine at a veterans home in Northern California last week, the Veterans Home of California-Barstow is scheduled to do the same. California Department of Veterans Affairs spokesperson Lindsey Sin said the home in Barstow is scheduled to have a clinic on site Thursday in partnership with CVS to administer the Pfizer vaccine.  Sin told the Daily Press CVS is bringing its own clinical team to conduct the inoculations.  The vaccine will be given to healthcare personnel, followed by veterans who are “at high risk of severe illness from COVID-19,” according to San Bernardino County Veterans Affairs Director Frank Guevara.

Officials: Man killed by deputies outside Hesperia Stater Bros. was armed with machete Victorville Daily Press The man killed in a deputy-involved shooting earlier this week was armed with a machete and tried to get a rifle before deputies opened fire on him in a Stater Bros. parking lot in Hesperia, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. On Tuesday evening, sheriff’s officials released more information on the Monday afternoon incident, saying the 33-year-old Barstow man was wanted for attempted murder, residential robbery and assault with a deadly weapon in the Barstow area. Following an “extensive investigation” deputies from the sheriff’s Specialized Enforcement Division determined the suspect’s whereabouts, eventually locating him at about 1:30 p.m. Monday in the rain-soaked parking lot of the Stater Bros. Markets grocery store at Main and Eighth streets in Hesperia.

47-year-old man on motorized scooter killed Saturday night in Victorville crash Victorville Daily Press A man driving a motorized scooter died Saturday night after he was hit by another vehicle on a Victorville roadway, but authorities said they determined he caused the collision.  San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Cindy Bachman said the man killed was 47-year-old. The coroner’s office has not released his identity.  Sheriff’s officials said deputies responded to the crash on Hook Boulevard near Indian Wells Drive at approximately 7:38 p.m. Saturday.  At the scene, deputies learned a silver Honda Accord that had been heading west on Hook Boulevard collided with the westbound scooter that was originally in the center turning lane.

Barstow man struck by vehicle, killed on Yermo Road Victorville Daily Press A 58-year-old Barstow man was killed after he was struck by a vehicle on Yermo Road on Monday night, authorities said.  The man’s identity has not been released by the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner office as of Tuesday afternoon.  California Highway Patrol officers responded to the collision on Yermo Road, north of Fort Irwin Road at approximately 6 p.m. Monday. CHP officials said the man was standing in the northbound lane of Yermo Road and was struck by a 2005 Toyota.  For reasons still under investigation, the driver of the Toyota, was unable to observe the pedestrian in the roadway and subsequently struck him, CHP officials said in a statement.

Suspects arrested in connection to Apple Valley man s 2018 murder Victorville Daily Press Authorities have arrested two men wanted for the murder of 22-year-old Curtis Smith, who was shot to death during a robbery in Apple Valley in 2018.  Booking records show Alexander Simmons, 27, and Treavion Jamar Early, 20, were picked up by local authorities at the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas on Dec. 17. Simmons appeared in a Victorville courtroom for a video arraignment on Dec. 18, and pleaded not guilty to seven felony counts, including murder, first-degree robbery and first-degree burglary.  Simmons had a public defender appointed and his bail was set at $1.85 million, court records show. He is due back in court Dec. 29.
