Father, stepmother arrested in 11-year-old boyâs death

SAN FRANCISCO - The father and stepmother of an 11-year-old boy who was found dead in Northern California a year ago have been arrested in his death and are accused of torturing and poisoning the child, authorities announced Thursday.
Jordan Piper, 36, and Lindsay Piper, 38, were arrested Wednesday and are facing child abuse, poisoning and torture charges in the death of Roman Anthony Lopez, Placerville Police Chief Joseph Wren said. Although an autopsy revealed no obvious signs of trauma, Roman was found to be severely malnourished and dehydrated at the time of his death, Wren said.
EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - Almost 13 months after 11-year-old Roman Lopez was found deceased in his Placerville home, his father and step-mother have been arrested on multiple criminal charges including child abuse, poisoning and torture.
The Placerville Police Department and El Dorado District Attorney’s office held a press conference Thursday, announcing the arrests of Jordan Piper, 36, and Lindsay Piper, 38, in Calaveras County.
Roman was reported missing on January 11, 2020 from a home on Coloma Street in Placerville. At the time Roman was reported missing, he lived in the home with his biological father Jordan Piper, stepmother Lindsay Piper, and seven additional children ranging in age from 1 to 17 years old. The family had only lived in the community for about two months at the time the report was filed.

While investigators did not reveal any additional information in Roman s case, they did call the boy s death suspicious.

Lindsay Piper, 38, are responsible for the child’s death. Police said on Thursday that the autopsy showed no signs of “obvious trauma,” but Lopez was “severely malnourished and dehydrated.”
Charges against the couple are certainly evocative, especially the poisoning count against the stepmother. Authorities declined to explain the underlying behavior in detail, however. Police say Roman was abused, but the specific actions that led to his death remains publicly unclear. Police Chief
