Guwahati: Prompt action by paramedical staff helped a 20-year-old Covid positive woman deliver a healthy baby girl inside an ambulance while she was being rushed to the Jorhat Medical College Hospital in Assam s Jorhat district on Wednesday. The baby has tested negative for COVID-19 and both the mother and child are learnt to be doing well. The woman had come to her parents home at Cintamonigarh village in Bhogamukh, about 23 km from Jorhat town, when she developed labor pain. According to health officials, she was first taken to the primary healthcare centre. From there, considering her condition and Covid positive status, she was rushed to the Jorhat Medical College in an ambulance.

STAFF REPORTER GUWAHATI: The online classes amidst the COVID-19 pandemic had adverse impact on the students pursuing the MBBS course in six medical colleges in the State. The first professional examination of MBBS 2021, the results of which were declared on Wednesday evening, has registered only 58.67 pass percentage. Over 40% students could not clear the examination. The examination was conducted by the Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences in February this year. Out of 893 who appeared in the examination 524 have passed the test.

Population Control: Dispur asks doctors & nurses to strictly follow two-child policy

STAFF REPORTER GUWAHATI: The Assam Government has asked doctors and nurses working in the seven government medical colleges, three dental colleges and two nursing colleges to strictly adhere to the two-child policy to help in controlling burgeoning population of the State. Towards this end, the Director of Medical Education (DME), Assam, Dr Anup Kumar Barman recently dashed off letters to Principals and Superintendents of the Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH), Assam Medical College & Hospital (AMCH), Dibrugarh, Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH), Jorhat Medical College & Hospital (JMCH), Tezpur Medical College & Hospital (TMCH), Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College & Hospital (FAAMCH), Barpeta Medical College & Hospital (BMCH) and Diphu Medical College & Hospital (DMCH). The letter has asked the Principals and Superintendents to ensure total execution of the government policy on small-family norms among the doctors and the nurses.

Representative image JORHAT: Four persons, including a nine-year-old child and a woman of a picnic party, have drowned in the Brahmaputra at Baghmora, about 20 km from Jorhat town. Though the incident happened on Tuesday, their bodies were fished out on Wednesday. A joint team of NDRF and SDRF retieved the bodies and sent them to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH) for autopsy. District magistrate Jorhat Roshni Aparanji Korati has ordered a magisterial probe into the incident. “I have ordered an inquiry into the incident and entrusted circle officer of Jorhat West revenue circle to submit report within 15 days,” Korati said.
