The Return Of Live Music: 10 Classical Music Festivals To Attend This Summer

An audience on the lawn of the Koussevitsky Music Shed at Tanglewood in 2018. (Courtesy Fred Collins) Classical-music devotees who’ve been missing the sound of live music and the camaraderie of intermissions can begin to breathe a sigh of relief as the pandemic, at least around these parts, begins to wind down. The Boston Symphony Orchestra has just announced that Symphony Hall will reopen Sept. 30 with celebrity violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter playing the new John Williams Violin Concerto No. 2 (if you can’t wait, you can attend the world premiere at Tanglewood, July 24). This summer, many plans are already in place for live concerts, mainly in the open or semi-open air. Some programs, such as all the concerts at the legendary Marlboro Music Festival, are already sold out. Here’s my list of the live events that I’m aware of so far, including some I’m especially happy to encourage you to attend. Keep on the lookout for others.

Possible uses for American Rescue Plan Act funds discussed in Farmington

Read Article FARMINGTON Selectmen Tuesday, July 27, discussed possible uses for American Rescue Plan Act funds that will be coming to the town. There are a lot of moving parts to this, Town Manager Richard Davis said. He spoke of a meeting held with other municipal officials and county commissioners earlier that day as the county will also be getting funds to use throughout the county. Half of the town’s $819,740 allocation should arrive in August, Davis said. A report must be submitted in October saying the money was received and providing plans for its use, he noted. “We need to obligate the money by 2024, spend it by 2026,” Davis said. “The state is still working on the rules. There’s a public input process we need to follow, need a town meeting vote to spend the funds.”
