Baptist Health Corbin’s President Anthony Powers recently presented the Corbin Rotary Club with a check worth $6,180 for its Empty Stocking Fun.
The money comes from employees, who purchase “blue jean stickers” for $2 to wear on Friday’s, said a spokesperson from the hospital.
“The money is collected all year and then is used to help our employees and their families at Christmas time. We donate the extra to help our community,” said the spokesperson.
In addition to presenting the check, Powers also gave an update about the hospital’s COVID-19 vaccine distribution.
Beginning Jan. 25, Baptist Health Corbin moved its COVID-19 vaccinations center to The Corbin Center across the street from the hospital.

Corbin Fire Department Battalion Chief Jack Partin said the department was dispatched to the Third Street residence at approximately 4 a.m. on Jan. 26.
Three people were inside the residence when the fire started. One of the individuals woke up smelling smoke and alerted the other residents.
Two individuals made it safely out of the house, but the third attempted to rescue four dogs. Three of the dogs were able to make it outside, but unfortunately, one died in the fire.
Partin said the individual, who attempted to save the animals, suffered burns to their upper body. That individual was transported to Baptist Health Corbin for treatment.

Several local nurses who came out of retirement to help fight COVID-19 are now vaccinating people in the community for the virus. The nurses say they just wanted to help their fellow nurses and the people in her community. Nurses say they have attended an orientation and as they get back into the groove everything has gone smoothly. Sherrie Mays, Chief Nursing Officer at Baptist Health Corbin, says their dedication does not go unnoticed. She said once you’re a nurse you are always a nurse. They say as of now they will continue to work until sometime this Summer.
In Corbin, 11 retired nurses are putting scrubs back on and reporting back for duty. A spokesperson for the hospital says the nurses missed working wi.
Norma Jean Sizemore, 77, of Corbin, passed away Sunday, January 10, 2021, at Baptist Health Corbin. Her husband, Carl Sizemore, survives.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 14, in the Hart Funeral Home Chapel with Wilmer Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Cumberland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. The family respectfully asks that COVID-19 guidelines for wearing a mask and social distancing be followed.
