EDEN, N.C. â A Duke Energy helicopter crashed Wednesday afternoon in a wooded area in Eden, North Carolina.
The crash happened near some homes across from the Dan River Combined Cycle Station. Rockingham County EMS got the call just before 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The pilot was declared dead on the scene, according to reports. Two passengers were transported with injuries. We know of two injuries at this time, one was transported to the local hospital by our EMS agency, the second was transported to Baptist Healthcare by air, a spokesman said.
The helicopter landed on its passenger side after clipping some trees. None of the nearby homes were damaged.
