Meharry Medical College Announces Collaboration with University of Memphis and Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare for More Doctors of Color

Meharry Medical College, Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare, and the University of Memphis announced a historic collaboration the conglomerate said would diversify health care and advance health care education.
“It’s a game-changer,” Dr. James Hildreth, the president of Meharry Medical College in Nashville, said during a Zoom news conference on Monday, December 17.
“We will work together to diversify the healthcare provider pipeline and advance health care education,” Dr. Hildreth proclaimed.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Tennessee is now in the game. Vaccines were shipped to hospitals across the state. Memphis hospitals started vaccinating staff members soon after they got their vaccine shipments from Pfizer Thursday morning.
Methodist LeBonheur Healthcare, Baptist Memorial Healthcare and Regional One Health started vaccinating Memphis staff members Thursday. While the day came a few days later than their colleagues elsewhere in the Mid-South, enthusiasm and thanks highlighted the day.
“It’s been a hundred years since we’ve seen anything like this,” Baptist Dr. Steve Threlkeld said.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Doctor Jillian Foster, pharmacy administrator for Baptist Memorial Healthcare, joined WMC Action News 5 Wednesday to discuss the COVID-19 vaccine.
âThereâs a lot of excitement around this vaccine, and there should be,â said Foster.
She said the Pfizer vaccine showed greater than 90% efficacy in studies compared to those who did not receive the vaccine.

With only a few seconds and what he considered a nearly painless shot, Dr. Muhammad Mirza was one of the first of the staff to get the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine Wednesday. Mirza was able to be vaccinated because of his work with COVID-19 patients and immunocompromised patients.
