Sunday Times Rich List: north Essex entrepreneur takes place | Harwich and Manningtree Standard

A north Essex-born entrepreneur has been named in a prestigious list which highlights the richest people in the nation. The Sunday Times Rich List say Leonard Blavatnik top the lot having gilded his fortune in the music industry over the past year. Among those included was Jon Hunt, who hails from Colchester. He began his property business when he was just 19 when he borrowed a £100 deposit to buy a one-bedroom flat in Woking for £4,500. Two years later he sold it for £7,750. Today, according to the list Mr Hunt boasts an eye-watering £1.345 billion in wealth, £45 million more than in 2020. Despite his success in the past year, he fell from joint 111th to 126th in the 250 strong rich list.

The controversial Sports Direct founder, 56, saw his wealth swell by a huge £769m in the last 12 months. According to the list, he is worth £2.718bn and comes in at 61st place on the list.

Property and finance names feature in Sunday Times Rich list

The latest installment of the Sunday Times Rich List was published yesterday with many well know UK property and finance figures making an appearance.  The country’s richest person this year was Sir Len Blavatnik who saw his wealth increase by £7.2bn to £23bn, according to Rich List. Elsewhere Together owner Henery Moser slipped down the rankings to 156th place, down from 104th place in 2020. Overall his wealth stands at £1.102bn. Moser, who is originally from Bury, worked on market stalls before setting up his business in 1974. As a specialist mortgage lender he added a number of bolt-on businesses including Lancashire Mortgage Corporation and Cheshire Mortgage Corporation before setting up Manchester-based Jerrold Holdings in the early 2000s. Jerrold was later rebranded as Together in 2015.
