A murder investigation has been launched after one of Britain’s richest men was found stabbed to death.
Sir Richard Lexington Sutton, an 83-year-old baronet, was attacked on Wednesday at his country mansion near Gillingham in Dorset. A woman who is believed to be his partner also received knife injuries.
A 34-year-old man from the Gillingham area was arrested on suspicion of murder and was taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. He and the couple were known to each other, according to Dorset police.
Tributes have been paid to Sutton by friends including Sir Simon Hoare, the Conservative MP for North Dorset, who described him as a “country gentleman”.

Police have launched a murder probe after one of the richest men in Britain died after being stabbed inside his £2million Westcountry mansion.
The Mirror reports that Sir Richard Lexington Sutton was found dead in the property in Higher Langham, north Dorset, on Wednesday night (April 7).
The 83-year-old Baronet and has been described as an old English gentry landowner with an estimated wealth of £301million.

One of Britain’s richest men has been found stabbed to death in his country mansion, it was revealed today.
Hotelier Sir Richard Lexington Sutton, 83, was attacked inside his £2million home in north Dorset, last night.
The Baronet – whose family title dates back to the time of King George III and whose property empire is thought to be double that of the Ministry of Defence – is estimated to be worth £301million.
A woman, thought to be his second wife, named locally as Anne Schreiber, is also believed to have suffered knife injuries in the attack at the home, named Moorhill.
