Devils Lake residents included in 2021 All North Dakota Academic Team

BISMARCK, N.D. – Seventeen North Dakota community college students have been named to the 2021 All-North Dakota Academic Team, which recognizes the academic achievements of community college students.
Four Students from the Devils Lake Community were chosen for this prestigious honor with varying degrees ranging from nursing to English education. According to the awarding team, nominations for this award are based soley on outstanding academic performance and service to the college and community. Reciepients will receive a certificate of congratulations from Gov. Doug Burgum, an award certificate, a medallion and a monetary award. Recipients will also eligible for scholarships from Dickinson State University, Mayville State University, Minot State University, Valley City State University, North Dakota State University and the University of North Dakota. Faysal Faroik Coulibaly, â21, is a transfer student at La Salle Universityârecognized as one of the nationâs best colleges and universities for its proven outcomes for transfer students.
La Salle is the only Philadelphia university to make Phi Theta Kappaâs Transfer Honor Roll each year since 2016.
While making his college choice, Faysal Faroik Coulibaly, â21, considered several factors. A native of Burkina Faso, Coulibaly sought a university that would support international students. He factored in campus culture, too. And because the 23-year-old identifies as a religious student, it was important to find a university that embraced studentsâ faiths.

Area students are among community college students who have been named to the 2021 All North Dakota Academic Team, which recognizes the academic achievement of community college students.
They include Luka Dragovic, Sarah Nadeau, and Nicholas Vercaigne, all Dakota College at Bottineau; Rhiannon Giguere, Breonna Rance, Mya Halverson, and Amanda Lang, all Lake Region State College at Devils Lake; Yarenci Gonzalez and Tiffany Sewald, both Williston State College.
“Only the most highly driven and accomplished students are named to the All-North Dakota Academic Team,” said North Dakota University System Chancellor Mark Hagerott. “The 17 students from throughout our system who were named to the team this year are tremendous examples of academic achievement and volunteer spirit.”

COVID-19 vaccinations are opening to anyone receiving a paycheck as the vaccination rate across Ward County climbs past 20% of the population.
“Anybody that receives a paycheck now is considered an essential worker and can receive vaccine,” Lisa Clute, executive director for First District, said at a news conference Wednesday. “Any size paycheck. If you are in college and have a side job, that qualifies.”
