Charges: Lyft passenger threatened to kill driver with knife

FARMINGTON, Minn. (FOX 9) - A 34-year-old man is in custody at the Dakota County Jail after he allegedly threatened to kill his Lyft driver with a knife and tried to strangle him, according to a criminal complaint filed in Dakota County District Court.
Amory Alban Dean is charged with assault in the second degree, a felony that faces a maximum sentence of seven years behind bars and a $14,000 fine.
According to the charges, Farmington police responded to an assault on April 1. They learned a Lyft driver had picked up a passenger, later identified as Dean, in Burnsville and was driving him to Farmington.

A 28-year-old man has been charged with driving drunk in Eagan shortly before Christmas and killing his friend in a crash.
Michael J. Coombes, 28, of Eagan, was charged Wednesday in Dakota County District Court with criminal vehicular homicide in connection with the wreck on Dec. 22 that killed Michael W. Renlund, 43, of Burnsville.
A nationwide warrant has been issued for Coombes arrest. Messages seeking his response Friday to the allegations were not returned.

A 40-year-old New Prague man is the fourth person charged with murder in connection with a shooting during a drug-related robbery along an Inver Grove Heights road in January s final hours.
Jason R. Beck was charged Tuesday in Dakota County District Court with second-degree unintentional murder for his alleged role in the death on Jan. 31 of Bryant J. Lutgens, whose 39th birthday would have been the next day.
A warrant has been issued nationwide for Beck s arrest.

LAKEVILLE, Minn. A former Lakeville South High School student injured after crashing his pickup truck while playing a “Nerf War” game in 2015 is suing the Lakeville school district, claiming it failed to protect its students.
In a lawsuit filed this week in Dakota County District Court, Alexander Hughes, now 21, alleges that district officials knew or should have known students were playing Nerf War and “failed to use reasonable care to fulfill the duties that it owed its students.”
The single-vehicle crash south of Lakeville left Hughes with fractures to his skull and vertebrae, as well as a traumatic brain injury causing permanent paralysis to the left side of his face, according to the lawsuit, which asks for over $50,000.
Attorney General Keith Ellison has sued an Apple Valley landlord for forcing tenants to vacate during the COVID-19 pandemic so the townhouse could be put up for sale. Joanna C.
