North Dakota Corn Growers seeks candidates from Dickey, LaMoure counties for board of directors

The North Dakota Corn Growers Association is seeking candidates to fill an opening on its board of directors for District 6.
Board members represent the districts in which they live by influencing policy that affects North Dakota corn producers. District 6 consists of Dickey and LaMoure counties. The four-year term will begin July 1, 2021, and up to two consecutive 4-year terms may be served.
The volunteer representative will replace outgoing board member Bart Schott of Kulm whose final term will expire on June 30. Schott has also served as president of the National Corn Growers Association.

WASHINGTON – Senators John Hoeven (R-N.D.) and Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.) have introduced the Feed Emergency Enhancement During Disasters with Cover Crops (FEEDD) Act, bipartisan legislation to provide farmers and ranchers additional flexibility to alleviate feed shortages in years with widespread excessive moisture, flooding or drought. Specifically, the bill would:
Create an emergency waiver authority for the Secretary of Agriculture to allow for haying, grazing or chopping of a cover crop on prevented plant acres before November 1 in the event of a feed shortage due to excessive moisture, flood or drought.

Farmers have until March 15 to make their 2020-21 farm program elections. University of Illinois economist Dr. Gary Schnitkey says farmers must decide between Agriculture Risk Coverage or Price Loss Coverage for this crop year or they will divert back to the election they made in the 2019-20 season. He says they are making some general recommendations to farmers based on current conditions and prices.
He says the PLC program pays when prices are expected to be lower and is based on reference prices. The ARC County program is a revenue-based program that takes into consideration the County Benchmark Yields and price to figure a county revenue and if payments will be made. So, he says farmers should keep that in mind when making their election.
