The state s largest school district isn t meeting graduation rates for special education students, and neither is South Dakota as a whole on average.
That s according to information released this week by the South Dakota Department of Education (DOE) regarding an annual report about school districts performance on improving the educational outcomes of students with disabilities.
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requires each state to develop a state performance plan and annual performance report that evaluates the state s efforts to implement the requirements and purposes of the IDEA, and describes how the state will improve its implementation.

Gov. Kristi Noem is asking the South Dakota Board of Regents to preserve “honest, patriotic education” and to consider whether funds are used to teach critical race theory in the state’s public universities.
“I have become increasingly concerned about a growing movement throughout the country to reject patriotic education and downplay the positive revolution in human affairs set in motion by our Founders,” Noem said in a letter dated Monday to each individual Regent on the board.
She added students should “understand the full picture of our nation’s history,” including the country’s greatest achievements and “long struggles” to overcome injustice.
