Yuma Sector Border Patrol continues to deal with migrant influx

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Yuma Sector Border Patrol tells News 11 that the number of apprehensions it s experiencing is roughly double what agents saw during the last fiscal year.
The issue is taking center stage since the Biden administration rescinded the so-called Remain in Mexico policy.
“So far this fiscal year, we’ve apprehended a little over 8,600 illegal aliens , said agent Vincent Dulesky with Yuma Sector Border Patrol.
Last fiscal year, that number stood at 4,400. Border Patrol said the majority of apprehensions are taking place at vulnerable areas of the border wall, where often times migrants traveling on foot can simply walk across and surrender themselves to agents.
Detention facilities are filling up fast in Yuma, AZ but strict social distancing guidelines are now forcing immigration officials to release some migrants into town with a date to appear in court later.

As the Biden administration starts to focus on immigration reform, it’s enticing many newcomers to try and cross but the borders are still closed and it’s causing some confusion and a battle in border towns.

Yuma, Arizona - The City invites residents and visitors to view this year’s BBQ and Brew Festival, a virtual event, which premiers 4 p.m. Friday, February 26 on the City’s social media platforms and on City 73 TV.
With health and safety restrictions on large gatherings still in place, the festival will go video-only this year to whet the appetite for tasty barbecue. The virtual festival will feature local barbecue and restaurant chefs and interviews with local brewers. The event will also peek inside a local backyard barbecue.
A head-to-head cooking challenge on tri-tip beef pits Mayor Douglas Nicholls and Yuma County Supervisor Jonathan Lines against local restaurant Holy Smokes. Judging the cook-off are former Yuma County Supervisor Russell McCloud, Jennifer Blackwell of Z93 radio, and Keith Boyd of Klein’s Electric.
