University of Twente professor awarded ERC grant to advance robotic surgery with novel magnetic system
Prof. Dr. Sarthak Misra of the University of Twente has been awarded an ERC Proof of Concept grant titled – RAMSES (Robust Actuation through Magnetism for Safe Endovascular Surgery). It is Prof. Misra’s fourth ERC grant. RAMSES follows from the results of his ERC Starting grant ROBOTAR. Within RAMSES, the researchers from the Surgical Robotics Laboratory (SRL) will develop a system for magnetically-actuated robotic surgery.
Robotic technologies are increasingly more prevalent within the field of minimally invasive surgery (MIS), helping clinicians to treat the patients quickly, precisely, and with minimal complications. by Elton Alisson (Agência FAPESP) Biofuels play a fundamental role in decarbonizing the transportation sector. Current policies to grow biofuel production and use on a global scale, however, are not sufficiently ambitious, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).
To address this problem, the IEA will assess the effectiveness of the policies implemented by leading producers of low-carbon fuels for transportation such as Brazil in order to help them identify bottlenecks, recommend solutions, and share best practices so as to move the bioenergy agenda forward.
The initiative was presented by IEA representatives during the Fourth Brazilian Bioenergy Science and Technology Conference (BBEST), held online between November 30 and December 2.
OBITUARY: Having spent 35 years following the trail of George Blake s treachery, interviewing friends, family, colleagues and victims, I understand the scale of his betrayal. And having met him in Moscow in the late 1980s, it amazes me to this day how anyone could have accepted Blake as a legitimate MI6 officer. Born George Behar in Holland, Blake is probably best known as the spy who received one of the longest jail sentences handed out by a British criminal court, a total of 42 years. He is equally notorious for having served less than six years before escaping to the Soviet Union on October 22 1966. But in the intelligence community, he is remembered as the first MI6 officer to be convicted of betraying his country.
