Staffing levels across Hywel Dda health region remain a concern as the coronavirus pandemic shows no sign of abating HYWEL Dda University Health Board has stressed that the NHS continues to operate under extreme pressure, urging the public to follow coronavirus rules. Towards the end of last month (December), the health board put out a statement saying it had the highest number of Covid-19 inpatients since the start of the pandemic. Over a week later, it said the situation remains dire. Asked how many patients are currently using the field hospitals, such as Bluestone, a spokesperson said they were unable to confirm a number because the figure fluctuates.

Covid: Cardigan minor injuries unit shut for staff to help with pandemic

Hywel Dda University Health Board said the closure would be temporary and would be under constant review until it is safe to re-open. The unit at Cardigan Integrated Care Centre usually operates five days a week during normal working hours. Patients have been asked to call 111 if they need assistance. Young Carmarthenshire health worker scoops Radio 1 Teen Hero award

Will Jones has been named as a Radio 1 TeenHero A HYWEL Dda health board trainee has been presented with a national #TeenHero award by BBC Radio 1’s Greg James in recognition of his work and the positive impact he has had on people during the coronavirus pandemic. In response to BBC Radio 1’s national call out for Inspirational Teenager Award nominations, Will Jones, a trainee physiotherapy technician at Glangwili Hospital, was nominated by his girlfriend, Tayla, and received the surprise news live on BBC Radio 1’s breakfast show. Seventeen-year-old Will, from Carmarthen, joined the apprenticeship academy scheme run by Hywel Dda University Health Board over a year ago. When the Covid-19 pandemic turned the world upside down, he stepped up to help as a frontline worker.
