A few days ago during a virtual fundraiser for Erie County Democratic Chairman Jeremy Zellner, some big timers beamed in to support the leader of upstate New Yorkâs largest Democratic organization.
Of course, Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul made her virtual appearance. Sheâs a Buffalonian who has always been close to Zellnerâs crew.
But as Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo continues to squirm under probes of alleged sexual harassment, as well as disguising Covid-19 data (amid a host of other allegations), Hochul is viewed these days in a different light. Should Cuomo be forced from office, she would take over as leader of the Empire State.

Race to face Cuomo kicks off with two Trump allies
ALBANY, N.Y. New York’s far-right Republicans aren’t sleeping on what could be their widest opening yet to replace three-term Gov. Andrew Cuomo, whose uncertain political future depends on state and federal investigations into his personal and professional behavior.
Just a day after New York passed a $212 billion budget packed with progressive goodies, Rep. Lee Zeldin(R-N.Y.) declared he would run for governor next year. The MAGA-aligned congressman’s bid comes after Andrew Guiliani, the son of the bombastic former New York City mayor, said he had discussed his own gubernatorial ambitions with former President Donald Trump, his father s former client.

ALBANY Let s get something straight. No Republican with ties to Donald Trump will defeat Andrew Cuomo in next year s race for governor, no matter how much the Democratic incumbent is tarred by scandal.
Elise Stefanik would not beat Cuomo. Neither would Lee Zeldin, the Republican congressman from Long Island. There isn t a chance in the world that Andrew Giuliani beats the governor.
