Access Bank in partnership with ScaleUp Africa has hosted leading women across Africa in a virtual Pan-African Women Conference to highlight the importance of creating an enabling environment that helps women to thrive.
The conference formed part of activities marking the sixth anniversary of Access Bank’s flagship ‘W’ Initiative.
Riding on this year’s International Women’s Day theme, “Choose to Challenge”, the virtual conference had over 1,500 participants joining from various countries on the continent.
ScaleUp Africa is a Pan-African enterprise development agency focused on innovative strategies to help women-owned SMEs go global.

Can you speak about the Access Bank and LSETF partnership?
I feel very excited about this partnership as it has been ongoing for a few months and it took a little time to put it together so that it would be beneficial, not just to the bank, but to Lagos state as well as our beneficiaries. The W initiative is home to over 10 million female customers in Nigeria and probably the largest portfolio for female customers as well as female entrepreneurs. Since 2016 when we launched the W initiative, it was basically for it to be a non-stop shop for women entrepreneurs and so what we have tried to do over the last six years is to ensure that we actually serve three different categori

Female entrepreneurs now have more reasons to smile and succeed with a discounted financing solution known as the “LSETF-W Initiative Loan” specially created by the Access Bank W Initiative program in partnership with the Lagos State Employee Trust Fund (LSETF) to provide low-interest loans for female businesses to flourish in the state. The “LSETF- W Initiative loan” is a financing scheme for female traders/MSME’s operating in Lagos state regardless of their state of origin. This means applications from non-indigenes who are resident in Lagos and own at least 50% ownership in either start-ups, micro-enterprises, or small and medium enterprises will be accepted for consideration.
