Aileen Gilroy helped the North Melbourne Kangaroos to an emphatic victory over the Geelong Cats in the opening round of this season s Women s Aussie Rules campaign.
The Melbourne outfit scored 11 goals as they swept the Cats aside in a remarkable match which finished 11.5 (71) to 1.3 (9).
Playing on the right side of the half-back line, Mayo native Gilroy contributed to the overall performance with 13 disposals, 11 kicks and seven tackles, which leave the Kangaroos on top of the table after the first round of matches thanks to the emphatic scoreline.

Noëlle Healy received a request from a 1st year student in Longford, one that the five-time Dublin All-Ireland SFC winner just couldn t ignore.
Lea, from Meán Scoil Mhuire, was given the task of writing to any famous person or someone, who inspires them as part of her English homework, and chose Healy, who she describes as a great footballer .
Sharing the heartwarming letter addressed to the LGFA Headquarters, on Twitter, Healy said: A nice bit of post to arrive home to.

DUBLIN’S ALL-IRELAND FOUR-IN-A-ROW winning boss Mick Bohan is staying at the helm for the 2021 season.
“Dublin LGFA club delegates this evening have ratified Mick Bohan as the Dublin senior manager for the 2021 season,” the county wrote on Twitter this evening.
“Bohan took on the Dublin job for a second term in January 2017, since then he has led Dublin to four All Irelands, three Leinster titles and one NFL.”

Philly McMahon has backed the decision to hold the inter-county campaign in the earlier than usual in the new year and feels the split season is a good idea .
The multiple Dublin All-Ireland winner was part of the panel which beat Mayo on 19 December to win a sixth All-Ireland SFC final in a row, with the 2020 championship significantly delayed by the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
But if they are to make it to seventh decider on the trot, they and their rivals will be aiming for an 18 July date after the GAA announced that inter-county would come before club in the 2021 calendar. Club action is then set to commence on the weekend of 24-25 July
