A MAN WHO sold his bank account for €500 to a Romanian organised crime group laundering funds from frauds has been jailed for six months.
Kevin White BL, defending, said Vlad Pintea (35) should not be made an example of, pointing out that the criminals had subsequently used his client’s account not only to launder money but also to take out loans and credit cards, leaving him with a “toxic” credit rating and no financial independence.

A TEENAGER WHO, with the help of a friend, robbed the car of his social worker to go on “a jolly” has had three years detention deferred for a year.
Maurice Coffey SC, defending, said it was “quite clearly a plan that was hatched between the pair” to go on “a jolly” that was “not quite Thelma and Louise”.
He accepted that his client used violence to remove the woman from the vehicle. He described it as “a shocking incident” and said it was lucky the woman had not been hurt.

A WOMAN HAS been sent forward for trial to the circuit court in Dublin accused of sharing the identity of a boy convicted of murdering a teenage girl.
The boy and another youth convicted of the same offence were juveniles and have the legal right to anonymity. The murdered teenage girl cannot currently be named either.
Brazilian national who ingested 33 pellets of cocaine jailed for trafficking drugs into Ireland

A Brazilian man who was one of three who flew into Ireland trafficking drugs from their native country has been jailed for 18 months.
Breno Oliveria (24) ingested 30 pellets of cocaine in Sao Paulo after he attended a meeting on the understanding that he was getting a work permit to allow him to work in construction in Ireland. He was from a rural area of Brazil and his intention was to go to Ireland to get work so he could send much needed funds home.
Garda Andrew McDonald told Katherine McGillicuddy BL, prosecuting, that unbeknownst to Oliveria he was on the same flight into Dublin as two other Brazilians who had also met with the same gang and forced to transport the cocaine.

A husband and wife falsely tried to claim they had been injured in a car accident after the husband reversed into an off-duty garda driving a van, a Dublin court has heard.
Rene Cifra (34) was only 15 minutes into his new job as a food delivery man in May 2019 when he missed the house he was delivering to and decided to reverse down Griffith Avenue, Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard on Tuesday.
Cifra collided with a Mercedes van which was being driven by an off-duty garda and ended up writing off his car.
