WORCESTER A caregivers union at St. Vincent Hospital showed a sign of solidarity and support for the hospital’s striking nurses Saturday, marching alongside them on the picket line.
United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1445 represents 600 patient care assistants, critical care technicians, clerks, clinical support, housekeeping, radiology assistants, operating-room aides and pulmonary techs who work at St. Vincent, while the Massachusetts Nurses Association represents 800 nurses that work there.
The nurses went on strike at 6 a.m. Monday, after their inability to come to negotiation agreement with Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare, which owns St. Vincent.
While the expressed concern of safety for staff and patients are shared by both unions, UFCW Local 1445 has not gone on strike and referred to Saturday’s participating as an “informational picketing.
