Celebrating 100 Issues Aesthetica Magazine reaches a significant milestone in 2021, publishing the 100th issue of the magazine, and marking 18 years of independent publishing. This special edition will be launched with a full day of virtual talks at the Future Now Symposium, celebrating one of the UK’s leading art and culture publications, founded in York, UK. Kicking the day off, between 09.30 and 10.30, audiences can hear from both of Aesthetica’s founders, Cherie Federico and Dale Donley, to learn more about the journey of starting Aesthetica Magazine as a project and developing the publication into one of the world’s leading voices for art and design, with a reach of 500,000, as well as a platform for creativity across the Art Prize, Creative Writing Award and Film Festival.

Major Exhibition Exploring Cartier s Inspirations from Islamic Art to Make U S Debut at Dallas

Cartier and Islamic Art: In Search of Modernity . This major exhibition traces the inspirations from and adaptations of Islamic art and design by Louis Cartier and the designers of the great French jewelry Maison for the creation of jewelry and objects from the early 20th century to the present day. Over 400 objects from the holdings of Cartier, Musée des Arts Décoratifs, the Department of Islamic Arts at the Louvre Museum, the Keir Collection of Islamic Art on loan to the Dallas Museum of Art, and other major international collections will be presented. The exhibition explores how Cartier’s designers adapted forms and techniques from Islamic art, architecture, and jewelry, as well as materials from India, Iran, and the Arab lands, synthesizing them into a recognizable, modern stylistic language unique to the house of Cartier.

Maximalist approach : FSU art professor Lilian Garcia-Roig wins Guggenheim fellowship – Repeating Islands

Florida State University’s Lilian Garcia-Roig, an internationally recognized visual artist specializing in painting from the College of Fine Arts, has been awarded a prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship. Garcia-Roig, chair and professor in the Department of Art, is one of 184 Guggenheim Fellows selected to the class of 2021. They were among a group of about 3,000 artists, writers, scholars and scientists who participated in the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation’s 97th competition. Her fellowship is in the Creative Arts: Fine Arts category. “Professor Garcia-Roig receiving this fellowship from the Guggenheim Foundation is wonderful news,” said James Frazier, dean of the College of Fine Arts. “It is an acknowledgment of the caliber of her work and her exceptional achievements as an artist.
