Subscriber only A Townsville law student s future career is on the line after he was hit with a hefty fine for drug and prostitution offences. Jai Matthew Graham Christensen risks never working in the legal industry again as a result of his criminal history. The 28-year-old pleaded guilty to knowingly participating in the provision of prostitution, supplying dangerous drugs and possessing tainted property when he faced Townsville Magistrates Court on Tuesday. Christensen was working as manager of the Clarion Hotel when he came to police attention amid another police operation. On three occasions he was caught supplying a small amount of prescription medication to one of the operation s targets.

Update 5: Fatal traffic crash, Thuringowa Central
Police have charged a man with 34 additional offences following ongoing investigations into property crime in the Townsville district.
The 18-year-old Garbutt man, who was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle in relation to a fatal traffic crash in Thuringowa Central on February 5, will face additional charges.
The 34 charges include 12 counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, nine counts of burglary, three counts of stealing, three counts of arson (motor vehicle), two counts of attempting to enter a dwelling with intent, and one count each of enter a premises to commit an indictable offence, enter a premises with intent, driving without due car and attention, driving without a license and possessing drug utensils.

UPDATED: ONE man caught while allegedly trying to steal copper wire from an Ergon Energy depot spent the night in hospital after a police dog bit him. Nicholas Ryan Holzinger and Ben Matthew Eastham were arrested at the Garbutt depot early on Monday morning. The pair were denied bail at the Townsville Magistrates Court on Monday. It will be alleged the pair broke into the electricity depot to steal copper wire, when police dog Cannon rounded up the two copper wire thieves at the Dalrymple Road depot. One man was found inside one of the large spools used to store wire.
