Townsville water update – 1500hrs 10 February
Townsville City Council continues to work with the Townsville Hospital and Health Service to ensure water being supplied to Townsville households and businesses is safe to drink.
Townsville Public Health Unit director Dr Steven Donohue reassured the community that the water is safe to drink.
“There is absolutely no relationship or correlation between the colour of the water and the safety of the water,” Dr Donohue said.
“Water colouration can be impacted by a range of naturally occurring minerals and pigments that are purely cosmetic.
“Townsville’s water supply continues to meet all the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines for safe consumption of water.”

Lynette Bowden filed the medical negligence claim at the Townsville Supreme Court in December alleging that despite multiple visits to hospitals over a number of years, doctors missed the signs of a serious tumour that impacted her vision and speech. In 2017, she attended Mount Isa Hospital, which falls outside of Townsville s health service, complaining of issues with her right ear including hearing loss, ongoing pain, infection and tinnitus.

Subscriber only An infectious diseases expert says individual Hospital and Health Services will be responsible for managing the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines to regional areas, such as Mackay. But Griffith University s Nigel McMillan said many other unanswered questions remained about the distribution of the vaccine in local communities such as Mackay and the Whitsundays. Each health district will manage their own (rollout), Prof McMillan said. How each health service is going to manage that is up to each of those organisations. I don t know how they are going to do that. Queensland Health has already publicly stated that six major hospitals across the state will deliver the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to those of the highest priority.
