That includes both the Ubly and Cass City school districts, both of which are going virtual due to quarantined students and a shortage of staff members. “We have about seven or eight kids who tested positive and about six to seven staff members also,” said Ubly School District Superintendent Joe Candella. “Because of that, we will be going virtual this week.”

That information was posted on the district’s website by the superintendent’s secretary Teresa Dinsmoore. A positive case was also detected in the district last week in a high school staff member. Students who were in close contact with the student who tested positive have been identified and provided with quarantine instructions. The district is working with Ann Hepfer, who is the health officer for both the Huron County Health Department and the Tuscola County Health Department, in addressing the issue and in doing contact tracing.

(Tribune File Photo) The Huron and Tuscola County Health Departments are urging residents not to let their guard down against the coronavirus pandemic as the Upper Thumb statistics head the wrong direction. According to a press release from Public Health Officer Ann Hepfer, the Upper Thumb has had some of the highest test positivity rates in the state. Hepfer said Tuscola County saw 55 new coronavirus cases reported last week and averaged a 9.7% positivity rate based off an average of 116 tests daily. Huron County reported 22 new cases, and a 6.4% positivity based off an average of 57 daily tests.
