Taunton Magistrates Courts in St John s Road, Taunton A PROLIFIC thief has been jailed for more than six months for a string of shoplifting offences. Daniel Andrew Westcott, 30, who gave his address as a homeless hostel in Taunton, was sent down at Taunton Magistrates Court after pleading guilty to four offences. He was sent to prison for a total of eight weeks for the thefts from Tesco, Tesco Express and Boots. Westcott received a further 20 weeks after admitting breaching a suspended sentence order imposed for eight theft offences. He was also ordered to pay £475.15 compensation and a £128 victim surcharge. A SEX offender who failed to comply with a notification order was given a £195 fine.

Daniel Mark Cavaney, 36, of Fairfax Road, pleaded guilty to the charge at Taunton Magistrates Court. He was made the subject of a five-year sexual harm prevention order, which bans him from using any internet device without enabling its history display that is capable of accessing indecent images Cavaney was fined £346, with a £34 victim surcharge and £85 costs. A MAN has been jailed for visiting a flat in Williton in breach of a court order. David John Rea, 36, of Hollis Way, Southwick, Wiltshire, was sent down for 12 weeks (concurrent) after being found guilty at Taunton Magistrates Courts on each of two counts of breaching a non-molestation order.

A POLICE officer is due in court tomorrow (Friday) accused of drink driving. It is alleged that PC James Hayward gave a positive roadside breath test on the A358 near Taunton last month, according to police. Hayward is due to answer the charge relating to the incident on March 12 when he appears at Taunton Magistrates Court. According to details of an accelerated Avon and Somerset Police misconduct hearing due to take place next Wednesday (April 21), it is alleged that while on duty he have left the force HQ in his own vehicle having been suspected of consuming alcohol . After allegedly giving a positive breath test after being stopped by a roads policing officer, he was arrested and taken to Bridgwater Custody Centre.
