ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – The public’s being alerted to potential safety concerns resulting from heavy snow.
The Tompkins County Department of Emergency Response says be sure to keep snow and ice five feet way from fire hydrants. This gives fire officials easy access to hydrants in the case of an emergency. Also, keep snow and ice away from the exterior air in-take and exhaust for your furnace. Not doing so could lead to carbon monoxide backing up into the house.
Lastly, keep snowbanks around your driveway from becoming too high, so you may safely exit your driveway.
