Hasan comes down heavily on BNP for defending Hefazat 186 DHAKA, April 26, 2021 (BSS)- Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today came down heavily on the BNP secretary general for his comment over the arrest of Hefazat leaders, who were involved in the mayhem amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. “How is it possible that those, who unleashed misdeeds during the pandemic, could not be arrested?,” questioned Hasan while addressing a distribution ceremony of health protection materials among the members of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) and different media houses at Jatiya Press Club in the capital. DUJ distributed the materials on behalf of the Awami League Relief and Social Welfare Sub Committee.

More 2000 journalists to get assistance amid COVID-19: Hasan 277 DHAKA, April 25, 2021 (BSS)- Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said that the government has taken a decision to provide assistance to 2,000 more journalists as part of its financial assistance to the newsmen to help them tide over their problems amid the Coronavirus crisis. The minister, also the chairman of Bangladesh Journalist Welfare Trust, informed this to reporters after an emergency meeting of the trust at the meeting room of his ministry at Secretariat in the capital. Information Secretary and also trustee board vice chairman Khaja Mia addressed the meeting through online.

We are thinking about incorporating a provision in the Digital Security Act so that no case is filed and none can be arrested under this law before an inquiry into the allegations is conducted, he told The Daily Star last night. I have been engaged with the office of the Human Rights Commission in Geneva for the last few months for sharing information regarding the best practices of the Digital Security Act all over the world. I will engage in a dialogue on the same issue next week. I have a plan to form a monitoring team so that there can be no scope to abuse the law.
