Ex-Ducsu VP Nur sued for ‘defaming government’

Former vice-president of Dhaka University Central Students Union (Ducsu) Nurul Haque Nur has been sued for making derogatory remarks on the government and several government institutions .
Brahmanbaria District Chhatra League President Rabiul Hossain Rubel filed the case with the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Ayesha Begum yesterday morning.
According to the case statement, Nur, in a Facebook live, called the Election Commission Behuda [useless] Commission .
Nur also said that nowadays the interest of Awami League leaders and activists are contradictory to Bangabandhu s one , the case statement added. Nur made the statements on December 16.

DHAKA, Dec 20, 2020 (BSS) – Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Akhtaruzzaman today said members of Dhaka University Journalists’ Association (DUJA) should depict the actual scenario before the nation maintaining objectivity.
“Students of the university who work as university correspondents for different media houses during their academic life play a pioneering role in media industries after their academic life. When we met the media persons, they applauded the expertise and quality of our students, especially those who did campus reporting”, he said.
He was addressing a seminar titled ‘The Pathways of Mass media During Post Pandemic Period’ organised by DUJA at university’s Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate bhaban.

DHAKA, Dec 20, 2020 (BSS) –A court here today set January 5 for the submission of the probe report in a case filed against Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) former vice-president (VP) Nurul Haque Nur and six others on the charges of abduction, rape, abetment in rape and offences under the Digital Security Act.
Today was set for the submission of the investigation report in the case. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Sufian Mohammad Noman set a new date as the investigation officer of the case did not submit the report.
On the night of September 20, a case was filed against Nurul Haque Nur at Lalbagh Police Station for allegedly collaborating in rape.

DHAKA, Dec 17, 2020 (BSS) –A court here today set January 7 for the submission of the investigation report in a case filed against Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) former vice-president (VP) Nurul Haque Nur and six others on the charges of abduction, rape, abetment in rape and offences under the Digital Security Act.
Today was set for the submission of the investigation report in the case. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nivana Khair set the new date for the case as the investigating agency detective branch (DB) of police did not submit the report.
On September 21, a student of Dhaka University filed a case over kidnapping, rape, assistance in rape and offences under Digital Security Act at Kotwali Police Station in the capital.
As Bangladesh completes its 49th year of being a sovereign country, there still remains a gap in preserving the memories of many who were martyred during the war. Two such unsung martyred intellectuals from the port city are Kaminikumar Ghosh and Abani Mohan Datta. To this day, no initiatives have been taken in the port city to preserve the memories of these remarkable, brave individuals.
Kaminikumar Ghosh and Abani Mohan Dutta were killed by the Pakistan army during in 1971 due to their progressive activities and strong stance supporting the independence of Bangladesh.
Current generations rarely know of these courageous people. There are roads and intersections in Chattogram named after martyred intellectuals, but there is no such remembrance of Kaminikumar and Abani Mohan in the city.
