More exclusive Covid-19 hospitals needed, says Private Hospitals Association

PETALING JAYA: The government needs to create more exclusive Covid-19 hospitals like the Sungai Buloh Hospital to cater to the increasing number of patients, says Datuk Dr Kuljit Singh. The Association of Private Hospitals Malaysia (APHM) president said it can be done by decanting non-Covid-19 patients to private hospitals for treatment, freeing up beds at public hospitals to specifically treat Covid-19 patients. “This is the most practical and workable solution and there will be a significant impact in easing out more beds for Covid-19 patients. “We can look after the non-Covid-19 patients from public hospitals. This will give more capacity for public hospitals to treat Covid-19 patients, ” he said here on Saturday (May 22).

Newly-built UKM Specialist Children s Hospital may be turned into temporary Covid-19 hospital

PETALING JAYA: Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia’s Specialist Children’s Hospital (HPKK UKM) may potentially be repurposed as a Covid-19 hospital to help ease the strain on Klang Valley hospitals where Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds are now operating beyond full capacity. “As a measure to deal with the sudden increase in category 4 and 5 Covid-19 cases that require ICU beds, upper managements from the Health Ministry and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) have met to discuss the recommendation of using of HPKK UKM as a Covid-19 hospital, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah wrote on Facebook on Saturday (May 22).

Covid-19: ICU beds reach almost 90% capacity in Klang Valley, 74% nationwide, says Health DG

PETALING JAYA: The current usage of critical and intensive care unit beds dedicated to treating Covid-19 patients has now reached 89% in Klang Valley and 74% nationwide as of Tuesday (May 18), says Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Covid-19: Record high of 22 new clusters identified on Wednesday (May 19)

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (pic) said this is the most number of new clusters to be recorded in a single day. Eight of the new clusters are outbreaks found at workplaces. This includes the Jalan Tanjung Kupang cluster in Johor, which has 199 confirmed cases. The outbreak was discovered from a targeted screening exercise conducted on 953 workers of a construction site in Gelang Patah, Johor. The Jalan 223 PJ cluster is a workplace outbreak discovered among workers of a service company located at Seksyen 51A in Petaling Jaya. A targeted screening exercise was conducted on 71 individuals, and 16 cases have been confirmed so far.

Health DG: Covid-19 deaths breach 2,000 mark with another 46 recorded

In his daily Covid-19 updates, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (pic) said 2,040 people in Malaysia have died of the coronavirus since the pandemic began. With the country also registering a new daily record of 6,075 cases on the same day, Dr Noor Hisham called on all parties to work together in battling Covid-19. “I hope everyone is aware of the situation that is happening in the country, and they can work closely together. “Together, we can face these difficult times and battle Covid-19 as a united nation, ” said Dr Noor Hisham. Of the 46 death cases in the country, 19 were reported in Selangor alone.
