Commissioners to discuss COVID-19 vaccination site at work session Thursday
At its meetings on Thursday, Feb. 18, 2021, the Dawson County Board of Commissioners is set to discuss a number of important topics, including possible locations for a COVID-19 vaccination site, the county’s agreement with the Georgia Forestry Commission and several proposed rezonings.
According to Commission Chairman Billy Thurmond, the board is considering several possible locations for the Dawson County Health Department to set up a secondary vaccination site so that large numbers of people can be vaccinated against COVID-19.
In January, Dawson County held a vaccination event at Rock Creek Park that distributed over 800 vaccines to community members and first responders in a single day.
Dawson County firefighter arrested for DUI, placed on administrative leave
Authorities say that a Dawson County firefighter was arrested last week and charged with allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, following a single-vehicle wreck in south Dawson County. Michael Robert Baumgartner
Lt. Michael Robert Baumgartner, 31, of Cumming, was taken into custody by the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office at about 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 1, 2021, after deputies responded to a crash in the area of 6175 Hwy. 9 south, near the Forsyth County line.
In an email to the Dawson County News, Dawson County Sheriff Jeff Johnson said that deputies determined that Baumgartner’s vehicle had left the roadway, traveled down an embankment and struck several trees.
Dawson County man arrested for sexual exploitation Dennis Laron Brown
The Dawson County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 25-year-old Dawsonville man for allegedly possessing multiple images and videos of child pornography.
According to Dawson County Sheriff Jeff Johnson, Dennis Laron Brown was arrested on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021, following an investigation by the sheriff’s office and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Warrants allege that between August and November 2020, Brown knowingly took possession of 13 image and video files depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. According to warrants, the images were allegedly taken from the social media platform Twitter.
