Rekindle your curiosity - The Hindu

Rekindle your curiosity Updated: Updated: Being a researcher no longer means living in a laboratory Share Article AAA Being a researcher no longer means living in a laboratory We are all born with curious minds, and this curiosity makes us natural scientists. Have you ever noticed how a baby will fearlessly crawl under a table to pick up a shiny, yellow bead, observe it carefully before popping it into her mouth to check its taste and texture? This baby is a scientist who hypothesised that random objects on the floor could help relieve her teething pain. She will test this hypothesis repeatedly to see if the results validate her thoughts. Upon reflection, she may conclude that using the chewy toy her parents bought is a better option, even if it is a lot less fun.

Experts Discuss Heterostructure Engineering for Quantum Materials & Devices

Share Roorkee: Leading international and national experts from the field of quantum matters discussed the role of emergent electromagnetic phenomena in designer thin films, heterostructures, and hybrids of quantum materials at the National Conference on Quantum Matter Heterostructures (QMH)-II. “Quantum Materials are enticing for science and technology, and activities are being initiated with state-of-the-art facilities to synthesise new kinds of quantum devices for technological application. Combining the power and possibilities of heterostructure engineering with the collective and emergent properties of quantum materials, quantum-matter heterostructures open a new arena of solid-state physics,” said Prof. Amitava Patra, Director, Institute of Nano Science and Technology (INST), Mohali, while addressing the inaugural session.

A Moral Obligation to Protect the Planet

Ramu Damodaran is Chief, United Nations Academic Impact UNITED NATIONS, Feb 22 2021 (IPS) - Legends are the lodestars of history, the marriage of Sir Dorabji Tata with Meherbai on Valentine’s Day of 1898 among the most lyrical of them. Two years later, he gifted her the Jubilee Diamond, the sixth largest diamond in the world, twice as large as the Kohinoor. Less than fifty months later, Tata Steel, the business in which he played so pivotal a role, was enveloped in a financial crisis; Dorabji and Meherbai pledged the whole of their wealth, including the Diamond, to the Imperial Bank, to make it possible for wages to be paid and not a job sacrificed.
