Fourth Line Woes
The line of Nick Merkley, Jesper Boqvist, and Marian Studenic had a very rough game yesterday afternoon. In just 6:13 together at even strength, they had a 20.00 CF%, were outshot two to six, had a 15.30 xGF%, and were on the ice for a goal against. Of the entire line, only Jesper Boqvist was credited for a shot on goal, with a whopping 0.04 individual expected goals (Merkley and Studenic had zero). Personally, I do not see how Merkley and Studenic can stay in the lineup after a performance like that. Perhaps Merkley will stay in on account of the

“It’s hard to score 20 goals in this league,” Penguins coach Mike Sullivan said. “I don’t think it’s ever routine. I think guys that reach that milestone consistently are really good players.”
Jeff Carter, who was acquired by Pittsburgh in an April 12 trade with the Los Angeles Kings, scored his 10th of the season and second in three games. Casey DeSmith stopped 34 shots and Jared McCann scored a power-play goal for the Penguins, who have 13 wins and points in 15 of their last 18 games overall.
Pittsburgh completed a three-game series sweep of New Jersey. The Penguins, who have points in their last nine home games, have nine wins in their last 12 games against the Devils.

If you can remember back before the world ended and the pandemic started (I know, it isn’t easy), one of the last normal things to take place, especially as it relates to the world of hockey, was the 2020 NHL Trade Deadline.
