Torrance County deputies shot and injured an Oklahoma man early Tuesday morning near Bosque Farms after he allegedly held a woman hostage and attempted to strike authorities with his truck, according to New Mexico State Police.
State Police spokesman Mark Soriano said Joshua Francis, 28, is recovering in the hospital and will face criminal charges when released. No deputies were injured in the incident.
“This investigation remains active and open, and is being led by the New Mexico State Police,” he said. “The details of the shooting remain under investigation.”
Soriano said Francis called 911 around 2 a.m. to report that he was holding a woman hostage at the Rock Motel in the Town of Mountainair and wanted to die in a shootout with police. He said Torrance County Sheriff s Office deputies and Mountainair police responded to the situation and found a 28-year-old woman, also from Oklahoma, on the ground in front of one of the rooms.
