Rogerstone s Monmouth and Brecon canal lack of water

The stretch of canal on the Crumlin Arm between Pontymason Lane in Risca and the Fourteen Locks in Rogerstone has a few areas of low water levels, and some of it is completely empty. Plans submitted for five new homes in Cwmbran

Two of the homes will be semi-detached and three will terraced houses. A separate application has been submitted to demolish a building at the site and replace it with another home – the access for that will be off Commercial Street. All the homes will have access to private gardens. There will be 10 off-street parking spaces provided. A planning statement for the plans says: “Although there is a shortfall of two spaces when assessed against the parking standards, it is contended that the sustainable location of the site with easy access to Cwmbran town centre the level of parking provision is justified.”

Expansion plans for Cwmbran s Crownbridge School approved

Crownbridge School, Croesyceiliog, Cwmbran A MAJOR expansion of a special school in Cwmbran has been given the go-ahead after following months of consultation. Crownbridge School in Croesyceiliog will be expanded by 50 places after the Torfaen council cabinet member for education, Cllr Richard Clark, made the final decision. The move will increase the school s intake to 130 pupils. Crownbridge caters for children with severe and profound learning difficulties, and has a primary department based at Penygarn Community Primary School in Pontypool, which caters for children aged two-11years. The secondary department moved to its then new Croesyceiliog site from its former base at Sebastopol, Pontypool, back in 2012, at which time 80 places were deemed sufficient to meet demand.

Decision due on factory plan to keep 170 jobs in Cwmbran

The site of the proposed new Crane factory, in Grange Road, Cwmbran PLANS for a new factory in Cwmbran, which could keep around 170 skilled jobs in the town, may be given the green light by councillors this week. Torfaen County Borough Council planners have recommended that plans for a new factory on land off the town s Grange Road be approved. Crane Process Flow Technologies (Crane), which manufactures parts involved in chemical, mining and water treatment, has been based on neighbouring land since 1934. But the firm s current site is ageing and a report says it is “not sufficient to meet the current and planned future manufacturing needs and investment of the company”.
