Tributes to Darlington doctor and film-maker

Dr Yash Pal Suri, 89, died peacefully at home on May 10 surrounded by his family. Dr Suri was born in Pindigheb, India and then moved to Darlington. He married Sushil and had three children, Neeraj, Vanita and Sandhya, and three grandchildren, Hari, Serena and Leela. As a young immigrant doctor, Dr Suri recorded his new life in reels of home movies and audio tapes. His daughter Sandhya said: “His boundless curiosity, creativity, sense of humour and tireless documenting remained until the very last. He will be remembered as an esteemed physician, creative artist, film maker and chronicler. Experiencing Partition, then later migration to England, he was no stranger to struggle and upheaval. In the UK he became a consultant physician and dedicated himself to the care of the elderly at Darlington Memorial Hospital for over 20 years, establishing the town s first Dial-a-Ride service in 1989.

The letter sent to all residents on Reid Street in Darlington stated that officers had received reports of anti-social behaviour around the vicinity of Reid Street Primary School. The letter said: It has been reported that staff at the school are being confronted in regard to where they are parking their cars whilst at work, this behaviour can be quite intimidating and will not be tolerated. May we remind you that the spaces which the staff are using are public spaces and anyone can park there.

Number of Covid patients falls across county hospitals

THE number of Covid patients across hospitals in North Yorkshire has fallen over the last week, the NHS has confirmed. Data from the North Yorkshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) shows that there are 18 patients in hospitals across the county, of which two are in intensive care (ICU). There are two patients in Harrogate Hospital, three in York, none in Scarborough and 13 in South Tees. On the North Yorkshire borders there are two patients in Darlington Memorial Hospital and one patient in Airedale. Speaking on the vaccination programme, Amanda Bloor, accountable officer at North Yorkshire CCG, said: The programme continues to make steady pace. There is currently a strong focus on delivering second vaccinations in North Yorkshire and York and the Government has assured us that supply will be available to enable every adult to be offered a Covid vaccination by the end of July.
