Camille Carey was told she shouldn’t go to college.
Not that she couldn’t, but she shouldn’t.
She was struggling to pass her high school exit exams because she couldn’t read them. She couldn’t write on them, either.
Despite her severe dyslexia and dysgraphia, Carey eventually did pass those tests. She decided to go to college anyway, and May 7, she graduated with a master’s degree in entomology and plant pathology from Oklahoma State University.

Ashlyn Summers of Waxahachie Wins Big Tex Youth Livestock Scholarship
Ashlyn Summers, an 18-year-old student in Waxahachie, was recently awarded a Big Tex Youth Livestock Scholarship from the State Fair of Texas. Despite having to cancel their largest fundraiser, the 2020 Fair due to Covid-19, they awarded $1 million in college scholarships to 170 Texas students. Ninety seven scholarships went to students involved in youth livestock activities.
Ashlyn said, “I have been involved in FFA and 4-H since I was 8 years old, and I have been very blessed to be so involved in the livestock industry for that time as well. As a Junior member, I had been exposed to many aspects of pig shows so far, by attending many State and National events in which I have been fortunate enough successfully participate and travel all over the USA. I have made so many friends, contacts, and connections throughout the livestock show community.”

On Dec. 18, 2018, when Neco Bonham left home, he told his mom he was stepping out. He said he’d be back in 10 minutes, but he wouldn t make it home until seven days later. During that time, he was getting roughed up by Richardson police officers and jailers, in their custody after a traffic stop went wrong.
It had been a normal day for the then 18-year-old Bonham. After he got out of school at Memorial Pathway Academy in Garland, he went to the restaurant where he worked and served tables. When Bonham got home from work, his friend Jordan came over. Jordan s girlfriend was going to pick him up later, so he wanted to leave his Ford Ranger at Bonham’s house.
